Sir Alan Duncan was the Conservative Member of Parliament for Rutland & Melton from 1992 to 1997.
He served as Minister of State for International Development between 2010 and 2014 and then Minister of State for Europe and the Americas from 2016 to 2019. Before this, he had held a number of senior foreign affairs positions within the Conservative Party, including Shadow Secretary of State for International Development and Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister. After standing down as a Minister he was appointed the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to Oman & Yemen and knighted for services to International Development and UK/Middle East relations.
He has a deep interest in, and knowledge of, the Middle East, particularly Oman, Yemen and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. He has been a consistent and vocal supporter of Palestinian recognition, as well as a strong critic of illegal Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank.
