New report highlights attacks on Gaza’s hospitals and medics in 2014 military offensive

A joint NGO report has highlighted the devastating attacks on Gaza’s medical facilities and personnel which occurred during the 2014 military offensive on Gaza. This comes as states prepare to discuss the UN Commission of Inquiry into last summer’s 51-day attacks at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva on Monday.

Caabu welcomes the announcement by Prime Minister David Cameron of an increase in the number of Syrian refugees to be resettled in the UK. The Government has made a positive step, and should be commended for this, but to fully address the scale of a crisis where over 11 million people have been displaced from Syria (4 million in neighbouring countries), a more substantial and increased resettlement effort is urgently needed.

On 8 June the Guardian Middle East Correspondent Kareem Shaheen gave a briefing on the impact of the Syrian war on Lebanon at a Caabu event chaired by Caabu Chairman, Andy Love. Kareem, who is based in Beirut, stressed the pressure Lebanon was coming under from the Syrian crisis during a highly informative talk on the region.

Khalil Al-Amour of Adalah (The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel) and the Negev Coexistence Forum, spoke to Caabu about Israel's plans to demolish the Bedouin villages of Umm al-Hiran and Atir in the Negev.  After a thirteen year struggle, on 5 May 2015, the Israeli Supreme Court aprroved the State of Israel's plan to demolish the village, and build a new Jewish town on the same site, called Hiran.
