The Britain-Palestine All Party Parliamentary Group hosted an online briefing on 27 April 2022 on Apartheid in a post-apartheid world: report of the UN Special Rapporteur for human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and other evidence.
This briefing was an opportunity to discuss the evidence for the crime of apartheid being committed, including hearing from UN Special Rapporteur Professor Michael Lynk, Palestinian citizen of Israel Member of the Knesset for the Joint List and leader of Balad, Sami Abu Shehadeh, and Amnesty International UK’s Government and Political Relations Manager, Karla McLaren.
This briefing comes after the launch of the report from Michael Lynk as UN Special Rapporteur, on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967. A press release from the UN can also be read here and Amnesty's reaction to it here. With this report concluding that Israel has imposed upon Palestine an apartheid reality, it also follows on from similar conclusions made by Palestinian civil society, Israeli human rights organisations such as B'Tselem and Yesh Din, and international human rights groups such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.
