The UK needs to do much more in terms of sanctioning illegal Israeli settlers and settler groups.
As the chart shows, the UK is behind the US and the EU on individuals and organisations responsible for violent attacks on Palestinians, theft of Palestinian land and settlement expansion.
The UK has sanctioned 8 violent Israeli individual settlers, 6 violent settler groups and 3 illegal outposts. Illegal outposts are only different to illegal settlements in that outposts lack Israeli planning approval, but both are violations of international law. The details can be found in the chart shown.
Settlements are illegal under international law, this includes building and residing in settlements.
It is welcome that the UK has taken the initial steps to place sanctions on individuals and organisations responsible for violent attacks on Palestinians, theft of Palestinian land, and settlement expansion. But, there is much more that can be done.
As seen in the chart, the US and EU are further ahead in terms of who and how many they have placed sanctions on, with the US placing sanctions on 14 individuals and 5 groups, and the EU on 9 individuals and 3 groups.
We urge that the UK follows suit and joins our partners in placing sanctions on those that the US and EU have already deemed to be in breach of international law.
