David Jones MP is Caabu's new chair, Alistair Carmichael MP and Paula Sherriff MP join Caabu's board

Caabu is pleased to announce that Rt Hon David Jones MP has become Caabu's new Chair. He replaces Andy Love, who has served as Caabu's Chair for seven years. Andy Love will continue to serve on Caabu's board. Caabu is immensely grateful to Andy Love for his excellent leadership over the past seven years.

David Jones is the Conservative MP for Clwyd West and was previously a Minister Minister of State in the Department for Exiting the European Union and a former Secretary of State for Wales.

Caabu is pleased to announce that Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP and Paula Sherriff MP will also join Caabu's board.

Alistair Carmichael is the Liberal Democrat MP for Orkney and Shetland, and currently Chief Whip for the Liberal Democrat Party as well as the party’s spokesperson on Northern Ireland. He is a former Secretary of State for Scotland.

Paula Sherriff is the Labour MP for Dewsbury and is currently Shadow Women and Equalities Minister

Responding to the announcement, David Jones said:

It is a huge honour to be asked to chair Caabu in its fiftieth anniversary year.

Over the last half century, Caabu has been at the forefront of encouraging mutual understanding between the UK and the Arab world, often in challenging circumstances.

Now, as Britain forges a new international role, and as the Arab nations increase in global economic importance and address new social norms, the significance of Caabu’s work increases.

Caabu is looking forward to an exciting future.  I am excited to be part of it.

Caabu director Chris Doyle said:

It is fantastic news on our 50th anniversary that David Jones, a former cabinet minister, has agreed to become Caabu’s chair. His wealth of experience and passion for UK-Arab relations will be a major asset.  His predecessor Andy Love will still be a part of the Caabu family after seven years as a brilliant and very supportive Chair.

Joining David as new members are Alistair Carmichael  and Paula Sherriff, terrific additions to the board and fighters for rights and justice in the region.
