Caabu's Panel Discussion on Libya: The Struggle for the post-Qadhafi Future:
Islamists, Militias and the role of Britain in today's Libya
Caabu will be hosting a panel discussion on Libya: The Struggle for the post-Qadhafi Future. The panelists will include Noman Benotman, Richard Northern, Nicholas Pelham, and Jason Pack, who has co-organised this event. They will discuss the power struggles between competing Libyan forces, and the role of Britain in Libya today.

About the speakers:
Noman Benotman is a former commander of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG). Soon after the 9/11 attacks, he distanced himself from al-Qaeda and later resigned from the LIFG. He is currently the President of Quilliam Foundation, a counter extremism think tank. He is also co-founder of the Libyan Human and Political Development Forum. In 2010, he was awarded honorary alumni status at the Near East and South Asia Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University, Washington DC.
Richard Northern is Director of RN4 Consultancy, which advises businesses on the Middle East and Africa. He is also Senior Consultant to International Hospitals Group, a British healthcare company (which is currently designing and building 12 new hospitals in Libya). For 35 years he was a British diplomat. An Arabist by training, he served in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Canada before being appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to Libya from May 2010 to August 2011.
Jason Pack is a Researcher of Middle Eastern History at the University of Cambridge, President of Libya-Analysis.com, and editor of The 2011 Libyan Uprisings and The Struggle for the Post-Qadhafi Future (Palgrave Macmillan 2013). His articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, The Spectator, Huffington Post, and The Guardian. He holds an M.St. in Global and Imperial history from St. Antony's College, Oxford University. In 2004, he was a Fulbright Fellow in Syria. And in 2013, he was British Open of Backgammon Champion.
Nicolas Pelham has spent 20 years studying, writing and broadcasting in the Middle East and North Africa. He is currently a Middle East correspondent for The Economist, author of A New Muslim Order: The Shia and the Middle East Sectarian Crisis, and editor of Peter Mansfield's A History of the Middle East. He is a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books, The Financial Times, and the London Review of Books. He has previously been a Senior Analyst at the International Crisis Group.
