Tahrir Square Stories

Tahrir Square Stories is an innovative programme of events, activities and resources that will tell the incredible story of the Arab uprisings and of those demanding dignity, freedom and social justice

Why did diplomats, policy-makers, analysts and academics fail to see or understand the growing popular unrest preceding the Arab uprisings? Why did revolution seem so unthinkable before December 2010? And how have the protests transformed our understanding of political activism and collective mobilisation? To appreciate the full significance of the Arab uprisings, including their global impact, we need to find ways to capture what is happening on the ground through the eyes of those involved.

The Tahrir Square Stories programme will include talks, lectures, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, research projects, educational materials and other activities designed to increase an understanding of the Arab uprisings and the challenges facing the Middle East and North Africa. It will rely heavily on first hand accounts, creating unique, original materials and also drawing on the huge volumes of high quality images, video, text and audio made available during the protests. Building connections with young people across the region, we will collect the very best from these fantastic resources, before they are lost in the digital haystack. They will be invited to share their stories and their work with an international audience in a versatile format that will be preserved for years to come.

We are currently seeking funding for a Tahrir Square Stories Education Pack. If you would like to read the project proposal please click here. To discuss the proposal contact caabu@caabu.org or call 0207 8321321.
