CAABU Director calls for urgent Quartet action
In an interview on BBC World on 2 May 2008, CAABU Director, Chris Doyle said that the meeting of the Quartet in London was crucial to trying to save what was left of the Annapolis process. He endorsed the call by key aid agencies to lift the blockade of Gaza because of the acute humanitarian disaster, but also stressed that the international community must make greater efforts to compel Israel to halt settlement building and remove checkpoints and other obstacles to movement in the West Bank.
Asked about the criticism from Condoleezza Rice of the failure of Arab states to contribute more funds, Doyle stressed that Arab states saw the need for political progress and were not willing to throw money away into a bottomless pit if the United States was unwilling to ensure political progress.
