Write to your MP

Following the May 2005 General Elections, the British government’s majority in the House of Commons was drastically reduced from 167 to 66. MPs are now more valuable in terms of potential influence. This makes parliamentary lobbying even more important but potentially a lot more effective.

Tips on Writing to your MP

  1. Keep it brief and to the point
  2. Make sure the information is accurate
  3. Be polite
  4. Ensure you include your address and postcode so they can verify you are a constituent
  5. Most importantly, ensure you make it clear what you are asking for from your MP - his/her opinion on a key issue, to sign an EDM, to write to the Prime Minister or raise an issue in Parliament etc

MPs can be contacted at:

House of Commons
Westminster
London SW1A 0AA
Tel Switchboard: 0207 219 3000
