6:30pm, Tuesday, November 22

Committee Room Ten,
 Houses of Parliament

Chair: Stephen Williams MP

 All Welcome

 Speaker: Mustafa Akyol

Mustafa is a journalist and leading columnist for newspapers in Turkey, the Washington Post and International Herald Tribune and author of 'Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty'.

At a time when much of the discourse around the Arab Spring asks 'will the extremists take over?' this timely event attempts to tackle the difficult political and theological questions which hang over would-be Middle Eastern democracies.

With a sympathetic eye to Western liberalism and also Islamic theology, Akyol traces the ideological and historical roots of political Islam and asks the ongoing question: is Islam incompatible with freedom?

Please arrive at St. Stephen's Entrance of Parliament allowing at least 15 minutes to pass security.
