Visiting Schools CAABU gives talks and conducts workshops at schools and sixth-form colleges around the country, with the aim of helping students to think beyond prevalent stereotypes and misconceptions which get in the way of clear thinking about one of the most important areas in the world and some of the most controversial questions of the day. The presentations are supported by powerpoint and are meant to encourage students to think and engage with what can seem like overwhelming and confusing issues. The topics which our speakers address tie in neatly with the Citizenship, Politics, History, General Studies, or Critical Thinking curricula. Possible topics include:
We can also cover different topics according to your school’s needs and preferences. Interested? Have any questions? Please contact Edward Parsons on parsonse@caabu.org or 020 7832 1320
CAABU’s presentations are geared primarily towards sixth-forms, though we do address younger students as well. CAABU is very flexible in terms of length of session. Ideally, however, though we do shorter sessions, an hour is the ideal minimum. CAABU is also very flexible regarding how many students we address. We address groups ranging from 5 people to over 200. Of course the smaller the group is, the more interaction and contribution is possible. Some schools deal with this by splitting the year group(s) and CAABU speakers are indeed willing to give the same presentation to different groups back-to-back. Yes, CAABU provides free downloadable teaching materials from the website, such as backgrounders and lesson plans. These can be used to prepare for or to follow up from a CAABU visit in order to enable students to more fully engage with the arising issues. No, CAABU does not charge, but we do ask that the school covers travel expenses. Additional contributions to the expenses we incur are also always welcome! |
