“When I first became a minister and Chris and his colleagues asked me to go and talk to CAABU one lunchtime, I very quickly realised that here was an organisation where one could really speak one’s mind. Where there was a free flow of exchange of ideas and I do think that it is the great strength of the organisation. I think that it is enormously important for all of us, actually, at all stages in our diplomacy to have that opportunity to speak freely but never more so than now with so many issues around the middle east which are engaging everybody. You will know as well as I do what those are and there are huge matters of concerns almost on a daily basis for all of us. So Chris, I would like to thank you and your colleagues very much indeed for the great job that you do and to say how much we appreciate that and long may you continue to fulfil the role that you do and I know that you are supported by a very able team.”
